The stature of cinematic worlds is strongly built on the consensus pick of the audience. Don’t mind the directors’ deliberations — they just splay the options for us to pick and pop.

1,218 is the number of unmanned aerial vehicles (henceforth “drones”) reported to have flown “in synchronization” at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. As if for me, who has only recently grown increasingly fond of netflixing, the latest installment in the Cloverfield franchise decided to pop up on the streaming platform, unlike the first two films, which showed in theaters. A Super Bowl commercial heralded the surprise release announcement just days before the streams began rolling out the film.

I admit that I was very late in watching 2016’s highest grossing anime, Your Name, as I am not a big fan of the romance genre and thus the movie did not initially appeal to me. Of course, by writing this article, it is abundantly clear that I have now embraced the appeal of the beautiful film, which has taken me one step further into the rabbit hole that is Japanese animation.

It feels like everytime El Salvador is in the news, it's never for something good. Despite its “majestic rivers, superb volcanoes, peaceful lakes, and its skies of purple and gold”, like with everything else, the limelight of global media will only shine down when something negative can be said about the country. At least this time, the attention is welcome. It could end up helping the lives of thousands.

Money doesn’t appear out of thin air? That is so 2017. With the Big Bang of the cryptocurrency market, digital dollars have completely defied the previous norms of investment and money making. It’s the Wild West, with digital gold up for grabs and outlaws roaming the field for the biggest margins in tens of cryptocurrencies that have since followed the success of bitcoins.

I am sorry. I am very sorry to hear that the new KAIST president’s ambitions have been walled off by the student community. I am not sorry, however, to see another ill-presented dream get rejected by healthily alert students exercising their own rights. The presentation of the idea of the mandatory artificial intelligence (AI) classes could not have provoked the public’s cautionary antennae further.

The plan for a mandatory AI course was rooted in the idea to prepare KAIST students for the incoming Fourth Industrial Revolution. While there is something to be said about Korea’s fixation with this “revolution”, the fact is that the plan failed to launch.
