On October 3 and 4, the KAIST Art and Music Festival (KAMF) 2014 was held at the Open-air Theater and the lawn in front of Main Library (E9). The festival was organized to provide KAIST students and the general public the opportunity to enjoy art and music along with nature.

While the last two festivals had more KAIST students than outsiders, approximately 2,000 outsiders joined this year’s event along with 1,000 KAIST students, according to the Undergraduate Student Council, Blossom.

This year’s KAMF had a different format from the last two events. The organization committee expanded the arts program, while the previous festivals put more weight on the music performance. The festival provided two main programs - the Art Zone and the Music Zone. The Art Zone program consisted of outdoor art exhibitions, art plays, short film shows, and flee markets. For the Music Zone program, 15 musicians were invited, including indie bands and popular singers such as San E and Bumkey. The performances took place at the Open-air Theater whereas last year’s were held at both the Open-air Theater and the Lyu Keun-Chul Sports Complex (E3).

Jun-woo Park, the leader of the KAMF Organization Committee, said, “KAMF was the most important event that the student council organized this year as it gave joy and happiness to the students. I am grateful that the event ended without any accidents.”

Even though the audience was generally satisfied, the organization committee realized that there was still room for improvement. “We are sorry that we could not provide the tickets at a lower price due to the rise in the cost of organizing the event and a drop in the school support fee,” Park reflected. “Also, we were unable to invite the musicians that the KAIST students demanded, mainly because of the lack of budget and communication between the organization committee and the KAMF organization agency.”

He further added, “Based on the feedback from the audience and the reflection of the committee, we will offer our experience and know-how to the next undergraduate student council for a better KAMF next year.”
