On October 23, the FnC sector of Kolon Industries (Kolon FnC) donated 2 million KRW worth of profits from the flea market held at this year’s festival to the KAIST development foundation. Kolon FnC i.e. the Kolon fashion division is one of the leading companies in Korea specialized in fashion and has led the development of technology and design for more than five decades.

In cooperation with the student model organization Model of KAIST (MOKA), Kolon FnC organized a flea market, where they offered various popular brands from their February line up such as Customellow, Lucky Chouette, Series, and Head at exceptionally low prices ranging from 10,000 KRW to 30,000 KRW. These products were in high demand, with all 200 items of clothing being sold out before the afternoon had passed. Kolon FnC also incorporated one of their latest synthetic leathers, Chamude, into their “infinite bracelet assembly kit”, which sold for 2,000 KRW a pop.

Events such as the flea market were possible thanks to the close ties maintained between the school and the company. In fact, since 2011, Kolon FnC has been running the Life Style Innovation (LSI) center with KAIST in order to build a domestic network for cooperation in technology. Not only that, as part of Kolon’s initiative to get more KAIST students involved in arts and culture, Kolon FnC has been holding styling events and fashion shows every year at the KAIST festival and decided this year to open a flea market at the fair as well.

Managing Director Sungmi Park of the Kolon Future Strategy Task Force, who participated in the donation ceremony held at the KAIST LSI center, said, “Kolon and KAIST have maintained a close relationship as two partners working together for the future development of the industry. This program is one in which students can participate as well, and I hope there are more opportunities for continuous development.”
