The 14th KAIST-POSTECH Science War was held on September 18 and 19 at KAIST. The Science War has been held every September since 2002 and is an opportunity for students from both universities to interact with each other through competitions in various fields of science, e-sports, and sports. All of the events were covered live by Voice of KAIST (VOK).

The science events consist of hacking, artificial intelligence, and the Science Quiz. In hacking, the two teams compete to finish a certain set of tasks in the shortest period of time. For artificial intelligence, the teams present their own set of codes which compete against each other for a certain game. This year, the game was Slime Wars. The theme of the Science Quiz varies each year as well, and this year the game was held on a 6x6 chessboard with the supporters from each university serving as the chess pieces. The game for e-sports this year was League of Legends. The sports section consisted of the traditional matches in basketball, baseball, and soccer.

This year, KAIST was successful in winning the Science War, bringing the overall annual score to 8:5 with POSTECH falling behind. KAIST was victorious in hacking (1854:1654), basketball (51:36), artificial intelligence (3:1), and baseball (12:5); POSTECH came out on top for League of Legends (0:2), the Science Quiz (420:1500) and soccer (1:2).

Although the main events of the Science War were the aformentioned competitions, there were numerous official and unofficial performances from both universities and invited singers. From KAIST, some of the groups included the cheerleading team ELKA, heavy metal band Infinite, magic performance group Mind Freak, and street dance teams Lunatic and Illusion. From POSTECH, music group Bremen, campus band Stiller, and guitar group P-Funk participated. The mood for the opening ceremony for the Science War was uplifted by a singer Ah Yeon Baek and the K-pop group Rainbow ended the closing ceremony with a bang.

In addition to the performances, there were several events for all of the students. Souvenir water bottles and t-shirts were provided to all the students who visited the information booths. Furthermore, an event was organized so that people who correctly guess the outcome of the Science War could receive prizes through lottery draws.

The location of the Science War alternates every year between KAIST and POSTECH. As the 2015 Science War was held at KAIST, next year’s competition will be held at POSTECH.
