KAIST Overseas Networking Exchange (KAIST ONE) is presented by various organizations of KAIST, such as the KAIST International Student Association (KISA), International Student Organization (ISO) and the Global IT Technology Program (iTTP). According to KISA, it is “an international networking event that serves as a platform for KAIST students to present their countries to the KAIST community and to communities of sister institutions.” On April 7, students from Kazakhstan hosted KAIST ONE to spread their culture to fellow KAIST students.

With an eclectic mix of around fifty people with a wide variety of international and Korean students as well as faculty members participated in this event at the International Center. Upon entering the room, Kazakh students presented a collection of traditional ornaments, instruments, clothing and art. Guests were then directed to listen to a presentation on Kazakhstan. The presentation included a brief historical and political overview of Kazakhstan, as well as a short song in Kazakh.

Afterwards, Kazakh food was served. The food was not cooked by the students themselves; rather, it was pre-ordered from a third-party restaurant. KAIST ONE presented a friendly atmosphere where the guests could fully enjoy the Kazakh cuisine. Mexico will host the next KAIST ONE on April 28, followed by Burundi on May 12.

Furthermore, the NOWRUZ Cultural Festival was hosted on the following day, where many countries joined together and presented their respective cultures. It was hosted on a much larger scale than the KAIST ONE event because it presented many other ethnicities from KAIST. The overall structure of the festival was similar to that of KAIST ONE. It was hosted by KUAT, a newly established club formed to promote the cultures of seven Central Asian and Eurasian nations.
