Starting from September 15, the KAIST branch of Burger King began operating 24 hours every day. This extension in the store’s operating hours will be applied during the regular school semesters while the former schedule of 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 A.M. will remain effective during summer and winter vacations.

Ever since its establishment at KAIST in May 2007, students’ demands for the fast food restaurant to prolong its business hours have always been high, but a various complications and problematic circumstances compelled the company to continually put off the idea until now.

This does not mean that the company has not been trying to make adjustments for the sake of student welfare. Even when initially determining the business hours for its branch at KAIST, the Business Management Team of Burger King Corp. took into account the nature of its location, where it is not unusual to see busy students who often stay awake into hours well past midnight. Accordingly, when the store opened, its operating hours were from 10:00 A.M. to midnight, whereas most other branches serve customers between 10:00 A.M. and 10:00 P.M.

However, advancements to actualize plans for longer hours began earlier this year, with the company deciding to add two more hours to its original schedule in March. After a few months of operating on this prolonged schedule, it became clear that a sufficient number of customers visited during the newly extended times for the company to gain some profit. Ultimately, the success of this trial may have contributed to the company’s decision to make further changes this semester.

In implementing the new business hours, the Business Management Team arranged a general scheme and passed the proposal on to President Suh, who confirmed it in August.
