The Undergraduate Student Council's pledge to introduce a bakery business on campus recently began in earnest. Artisee Boulangerie, a bakery service enterprise of Samsung Everland Inc., is slated for launch in the upcoming months at the East and West Cafeterias, as it currently awaits approval for business license from the Yuseong District Office.

Upon confirmation, sales can start immediately at the bakery kiosks that have already been constructed. Freshly baked items will be supplied daily to the sales stands directly from the East Cafeteria kitchen. The price range has been set to match that seen in other chain stores, or slightly lower in consideration of the students' budgets.

The groundbreaking initiative to establish a bakery on campus was the currently presiding Undergraduate Student Council's idea as part of their election campaign that focused on enhancing the students' convenience, among other agenda. Although the total KAIST population nears ten thousand, comparable to the approximate number of residents in an apartment complex, the suppliers of baked goods have always been present in external locales. In addition, there has been a consistent and conspicuous demand as well as numerous requests in the past. The result is that the new establishment will not only provide faster breakfast options for undergraduate students rushing to their morning classes, but also for the general KAIST population.

Furthermore, the East Cafeteria will be selling fruit boxes during morning and lunch hours seven days a week at the price of 2500 Korean Won. The fruit boxes will contain an assorted variety of fruits, the exact selections of which will change day to day.

The decision to sell fruit boxes was a collaborative outcome of trying to resolve the students' difficulty of accessing fruits on campus as part of a daily lifestyle. The issue was addressed by the Dining Operations Committee, which is comprised of representatives from the Undergraduate Student Council, the Graduate Student Council and the Restaurant Monitoring Committee, that convened on October 5 to promote mutual interaction between the students and food service providers.
