On October 26, the Provisional Board of Trustees congregated at the Renaissance Hotel in Seoul to welcome Professor Young Chun Kim, formerly of the Department of Public Administration at Seoul National University (SNU), as KAIST's newly appointed auditor.

In the past, Professor Kim has consecutively held various posts of increasing responsibilities, including the positions as Chair of the Department of Public Affairs and Economics at SNU, President of Korea Education Law Institute, member of the Policy Planning Committee of Ministry of Justice and Director of the national university corporation Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology.

More importantly, it is Professor Kim's rich experience of policy advisory work at various governmental agencies, including the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, Ministry of Public Administration and Security and Ministry of Justice that earned him the full-fledged support of many of the members on the Board of Trustees.

It is projected that Professor Kim's extensive range of experiences and expert knowledge in his field will highly facilitate the fulfillment of his newly consigned role as a law and policy specialist. Through this new appointment, the Board is especially looking forward to seeing a steady and rational performance of the job, reflecting a fine balance between policy planning and policy execution in order to best address current needs.

Professor Kim's election was the result of a complex process that involved the work of many different organizations and included an application procedure open to the public, evaluation and nomination by the Committee for Election of Auditing Candidates, the Board of Trustee's selection and the final approval from the Minister of Education, Science, and Technology on November 1.

Professor Kim's three-year term in office started on November 1 and will last through until October 31, 2014.

After graduating from Kyeongbuk High School in 1971, Professor Kim commenced to pursue higher education at SNU as a Sociology Education major (B.A., 1976), SNU Law School (M.A., 1985) and Korea University Law School (Ph.D., 1991).
