Professor Dong Soo Han from the Department of Computer Sciences, who is also the Head of KTNET-KAIST Industrial-Education Research Center, was awarded with the Presidential Commendation at the 2011 Korea IT Innovation Award held at EL-Tower on November 3.

The 2011 Korea IT Innovation Award, hosted by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, is a ceremony that recognizes companies, institutes and individuals for their development in IT-Fusion technology.
 
Professor Han was acknowledged for inventing a method to track indoor locations using Wi-Fi signals and developing myCoex, an indoor navigation application for use at the G20 Seoul Summit in COEX, as well as developing Subway Alarm, a subway navigation application using Wi-Fi to track the user's current location.
 
The award also acknowledged Professor Han's numerous publications in journals in the IT Fusion Category, including Ubiquitous Health (u-Health) and IT-Bio Fusion, registering seven patents and applying for 20 patents, contributing to the development of domestic and international IT-Fusion technology. 
 
Professor Han, who received his Ph.D. at Kyoto University in Information Engineering in 1996, has been working at KAIST for the past 14 years on bioinformatics, u-Health and indoor location recognition. He developed the WebVine workflow system in the Management Information System field; PreSPI protein interaction prediction system in the bioinformatics field; THE-MUSS mobile health system in the u-Health field; Elekspot, an indoor location recognition system; myCoex; and Subway Alarm. Professor Han was recognized for his contribution to the development of the indoor navigation system and has been appointed as Head of KTNET-KAIST indoor location recognition center, supported by the Korea International Trade Association and Korea Trade Network.
