On September 6, Et Aussi Project marked the start of the 2013 Fall Culture Festival. The very first performance of this year’s festival was Fragrance of the Sea performed by Celine Bacque, a dancer and one of the founding members of the Et Aussi Project. During the performance, Bacque shatters into pieces as the sea breaks into sparkles of water, and sinks to the bottom of the sea in unification. Bacque recreates the hesitant motions of the sea as she does a little cha-cha between the irregular rocks, and the mysterious background music that imitates the sound of nature creates a constrained connection of alchemy. Overall, the dancer acts out the storming sea, which represents memory, and her life in correspondence with it; she does not miss a beat. Fragrance of the Sea resembles our restless lives and suggests that we can remember someone, or something as a special feeling.
As for the upcoming events of the 2013 Fall Culture Festival, the full schedule can be found on the KAIST official webpage (http://www.kaist.ac.kr). Reservations for preferred seating arrangements can be made on the webpage about a week before the performance of your choice. The events are all held on Fridays, at KAIST Auditorium (E15) at 7:30 p.m., and are open to the public as well. On September 27, Andreas von Wangenheim and Daejeon International Guitar Ensemble (DIGE) Concert will be held, introducing Tansman’s Cavatina, Vivaldi’s Mandolin Concerto R.93, Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of the Flowers, and many more to name. On October 18, pianist Jong Hoon Park, will be playing with the theme of love songs, which includes Chopin’s Autumn Leaves, and Kreisler’s Liebesfreud. Also, there will be a musical, and concerts performed by indie bands. New Echo & Woods, an art company playing Korean traditional music, or gugak, will be visiting as well.

The 2013 Fall Culture Festival presents performance arts as pure art. The language and expression of art are abstract in that they cannot be recognized by sense alone. This seems to suggest that each of the performances can be interpreted and experienced in manifold ways. Please feel free to paint your fall with rich colors of autumn leaves.
