The lecture continued for five hours, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The lecture started with the life planning session. Doctor Joo asked the participants to write any regrets they may have in their lives so far and hopes for their future on post-its. The students then gathered and categorized their post-its according to age. By going through the post-its one by one, she advised the students on how to achieve such goals and discussed what the “right direction” of life could be. She also told the audience that life plans are gendered and explained the differences between the typical life plans of women and that of men.

After a short break, Doctor Joo gave a presentation on women’s leadership habits. This was followed by a casual question-and-answer session, where participants actively shared their concerns.

Students were generally satisfied with the lecture. Haewon Seo, a student participant from the Department of Bio and Brain Engineering, said, “I really liked how the lecture was run in a very casual manner. The most memorable advice from Doctor Joo was that we need to give up the privileges of being women if we want to demand for gender equality and complain about sexual discrimination, especially in communities and societies where females are a minority.”

Doctor Joo received her bachelor’s degree and doctor’s degree in business and women’s studies at Ewha Womans University. As a leadership columnist and coach, she has been giving lectures to leaders from various fields, ranging from politics to business. Doctor Joo’s Leadership Diversity Center is devoted to making practical leadership programs and books for young talents and women.
