KAIST is hosting and recruiting for its third artist residency program called the “Endless Road.” KAIST became the first university in the country to carry out such a program last August, a program that supports budding artists, writers in particular, and seeks integration between science and art.

Those who pass the selection process will be offered a maximum of six-months stay in campus dormitory, in one-person bedrooms of 50 square meters. Not only that, they will each be granted stipends of 800,000 Korean Won, allowed to interact with and even interview members of the school for inspirational purposes, and given access to the Main Library (E9).

“Endless Road” is exclusively a support program so writers will not be required to publish anything after their 6 months of residency on campus, nor will have their work censored by the school. However, that does not mean they are not bound by any responsibilities; the artists are fully encouraged to actively interact with the members of the school, including but not limited to students and professors, as one of the goals of the program is the integration of science and art; the writers will have to organize and direct activities that contribute to this goal. Also, the selected participants must stay in their allocated rooms for at least 15 days a month, and adhere to the rules of conduct. Failure to do so may result in their expulsion.

KAIST will choose 3 people for the program, people such as novelists, poets, playwrights and storytellers. Those who are eligible to apply include active debut writers, anyone who has a recommendation from a credible writers’ organization, whose work has been given an award(s), or whose work has been published, aired, or screened.

The program will keep on recruiting until October 21. More information regarding the application process can be found on the school website, www.kaist.ac.kr. This program is only available in Korean.
