The University of Exeter and the Pan-European Common Bird Monitoring Scheme (PECBMS) have announced that the bird population across Europe has been substantially decreasing in a new study published in the journal Ecology Letters. In fact, a staggering 421 million individual birds have died over a relatively short period of 3 years, mostly as the tragic result of unsustainable human lifestyle. The most common of species in decline include house sparrows, grey partridges, starlings and sparrows. Considering that birds are crucial to controlling pests, dispersing seeds, and removing carcasses, it is imperative that we amplify conservation efforts.
