The Yang Bun Soon Building (E16-1), a new research facility under the Department of Bio and Brain Engineering, has finished construction. In order to celebrate the completion of its construction, the Yang Bun Soon Building topping out ceremony was held on February 8. Since May 2015, the Yang Bun Soon Building underwent a construction period of one year and six months to result in a building consisting of six floors, one being underground. The total surface area of 6,127 square meters is being used to facilitate the department’s various research centers and lecture halls.

The building was funded by donations from the previous president of Mirae Corporation, Chung Moon Soul. A total of 21.5 billion KRW was donated for the establishment of the KAIST Moon Soul Graduate School of Future Strategy and the research of cognitive human resources in 2014. From this donation, 10 billion KRW was utilized along with a contribution of 1 billion KRW from KAIST to construct the Yang Bun Soon Building, which is joint with the Chung Moon Soul Building (E16) and is named after Chung Moon Soul’s wife.

The former president of KAIST, Steve Kang, stated that “[The KAIST community] expresses our sincere gratitude and respect to previous president Chung for his generous contribution to the construction funds” and that “Mr. Chung is exemplifying the charity mindset and social responsibility a businessman should have as a member of our society.” Former President Kang, students and faculty of the department, and representatives from Archiplan Inc. and KumSungBaekJoe.
