Passes all resolutions but one

The Emergency Undergraduate Student Assembly took place on the field in front of the Main Administration Building on April 13. Following the aftermath of the Discussion with the President on April 8, the Undergraduate Student Council, in an effort to better gather the opinions of the student body, called for all students to vote at the assembly.

At the assembly site itself, news reporters roamed the grounds shooting footage and taking notes for the evening news and morning newspapers despite the fact that the assembly area was encircled with makeshift police lines to prevent unauthorized entry.

Though the assembly was scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m., the ID verification process took too long, forcing the staff to skip the cross-checking process. Despite this measure, there was still a long delay, and the assembly began around 7:40 p.m. At this point, the reporters were asked to leave the assembly area and stand behind the makeshift police line. Of the 3,961 undergraduate students attending KAIST, 890 came, almost double the number of the 496 students required to start the assembly. This unexpectedly large turnout forced the staff to print out more voting papers due to a shortage.

The assembly began with the President and Vice-president of the Undergraduate Student Council, Young-chul Kwak and In-ho Choi, briefly addressing the students, which was followed by a free discussion session. Seven students gave their opinions about the current situation in KAIST, what the student body should do in order to reach a solution, and the pride they had in witnessing so many students assemble for KAIST's first Emergency Undergraduate Assembly. After the initial statements, the assembly moved on to discuss the agenda at hand and the voting followed. (Details on page 9) The Cold weather gradually forced students to leave the assembly, and the number of voters decreased after each round of voting.

After the voting ended, President Nam Pyo Suh appeared at the assembly and gave a speach about the meaning of the assembly and how proud he was of the students. The president also promised to answer the presented requests after three days. His speech was cut short due to an anonymous students' request that the weather was too cold and she wanted to leave. Despite the temperature, President Suh stayed afterwards and offered free hugs to the students gathered.
