ICISTS (International Conference for the Integration of Science and Technology into Society) plans to open its annual conference, ICISTS-KAIST, for undergraduate students from both KAIST and partner universities worldwide. The ICISTS-KAIST 2011 conference will be held between August 1 to 5 at both the Daejeon Convention Center and the KAIST Daejeon campus.

This year’s topic is “Metamorphosis: The Future of Human Society in the Information Era,” which will be subdivided into three main categories: social web revolution, digital sensibility and IT society. Keywords for the discussions include user interface, human interaction, mobile social network, social commerce and digital convergence.

There will be two keynote speakers at this year’s conference. Donald Norman, former Vice President of Apple Computer and co-founder of the Nielson Norman Group, will present about user interface. Amber Case, Cyborg anthropologist and UX designer, will give a speech titled “Humans and Machines Interactions.” As well as the discussion sessions and the keynote speeches, students who attend the conference will have a beer party on the first day, allowing them to get to know each other and socialize. On the second day, there will be an experience session where they can go on a field trip to a research institute related to this year’s topic. Participants will be divided into groups on the third and fourth days to work on team projects, which will be presented at the poster fair on the final day. The winning team will be announced and awarded on Gala Night, concluding the four-day-long conference.

The ICISTS-KAIST 2011 conference aims to “inspire delegates by opening their eyes to a new world filled with opportunities that only recent advances in science and technology have made possible, and provide them with the knowledge required to thrive in a rapidly changing society.”

Early applications for attending ICISTS-KAIST 2011 will be received from April 15 to May 15 and regular applications will be accepted from May 16 to July 3. Application forms along with more information about ICISTS can be found on the ICISTS website. (www.icists.org)
