On October 20, Joon Park and his filming crew visited KAIST to film an episode of WassupMan, a popular entertainment series on Youtube with missions of views per episode. Although the visit was during the week of midterm exams, photos and posts of the celebrity’s location were quickly shared on social networking platforms including Everytime, an online university community app widely used by students. Many students were excited to watch the filming process.

Wassup Man is a Youtube channel starring Joon Park, also known by his Korean name Park Joon-hyung, a Korean-American entertainer and member of the first-generation K-pop group g.o.d. The channel, with currently 2.31 million subscribers, gained popularity through the programs WassupMan and WassupMan2, which feature Park as he travels to various locations in South Korea. Due to the popularity of these programs, Park himself is also referred to as “Wassup Man”.

The filming was carried out from approximately 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. while Park toured the campus, interacting with students and professors. The Youtube video started off with Park walking in from the Main Gate (E1), introducing the school. During his tour, he tested out new technologies being developed in KAIST: an autonomous delivery robot that stopped automatically when a person was sensed in its path, and a cough-detecting program being tested by a professor and his lab. Continuing his tour from the Main Library (E9) to KAIMARU, Park asked students their opinion on the quality of the cafeteria food and tried the self-service set meal, claiming that “[the school cooks] know how to use MSG”. After lunch, he moved to TaeWulGwan (N13), visiting the club rooms of Ghutto’s, the hip-hop club, and GoN, the hacking club. GoN demonstrated hacking the public Wi-Fi to figure out what Park had searched on the internet. Park conducted short interviews with students about their high school grades and university life. Members of KAINURI, the university ambassadors, also promoted KAIST to the viewers. The video ended with an interview with Professor Jaehyouk Choi from the School of Electrical Engineering, who introduced the many awards in his office and briefly explained his area of research.

Episode 18 of WassupMan2, under the title “JOON Gets Hacked By Genius Hackers at KAIST University Mukbang Tour”, was uploaded on November 6 on Wassup Man’s Youtube channel.
