On April 1, the KAIST Task Force (TF) announced that another COVID-19-positive patient has been confirmed, marking the 8th case in KAIST. The Yuseong Health Center identified six close contacts, two of them testing positive on April 2. On the same day, two other people tested positive, one person identified before entering the Nonsan Army Training Center and another with no travel history at KAIST. Two other close contacts were reported as positive on April 3. Most recently, two more cases were reported on April 7, one in the Seoul campus and another in the Daejeon main campus. The latest confirmed case was reported on April 8. This raises the total number of KAIST cases to 17.

The April 1 case is the first recorded infection of a student living on campus. The student was residing in Mir Hall (W6), and the dormitory was under lockdown from the evening of April 1 until 11 a.m. the following day. The second linked case was a resident of Seongsil Hall (N17), and students living in the same dormitory were prohibited from leaving their rooms from 5 p.m. on April 2 until 8 a.m. of the following morning. As of writing, all other primary and secondary contacts of the confirmed cases have tested negative. The most recent cases in the Daejeon campus have not come into contact with any known cases, but tested positive after experiencing symptoms.

The announcements about the confirmed cases did not include any details about travel history. The TF addressed this change on April 5, saying that there have been past instances when questions and complaints from KAIST members have resulted in the delay of epidemiological surveys and the Yuseong Health Center requested the confidentiality of the travel history for the quick identification of close contacts. Following the sudden increase in confirmed cases, KAIST has enforced stricter social distancing guidelines for its members.
