On April 30, recognizing the need to address the fatigue following midterm week, KISA and ISSS organized a mental health event for KAIST students. Called “Table Talk 1.0”, the event aimed to alleviate stress and burnout of KAIST students. The event was also open to faculty and family members of KAIST students. Unfortunately, due to safety concerns regarding COVID-19, the event was conducted online and the number of participants was limited to 30.

Table Talk 1.0 was organized in the form of a seminar followed by a discussion forum. Professional counsellors and guest speakers who were invited to aid participants addressed the shared problems of the international community, including academic pressure, homesickness, social life at KAIST, and financial issues. The event also focused on mental stress and difficulties associated with COVID-19, the inefficiencies of online learning, and the health and academic challenges that result from stress. After the shared panel forum, participants were divided into smaller groups for private therapy sessions. These therapy sessions allowed participants to discuss their personal situation and emotions.

Table Talk 1.0 was not only a much-needed refresher after the midterm exams, but also represented an increased effort in taking care of KAIST students’ mental health and well-being. The event proved to be a success, garnering high interest and positive feedback from participants. “I hope it will become a regular event for KAIST students,” Ysa Margarita San Juan, a freshman who participated in the event commented.
