As of May 18, a total of 22 COVID-19 cases have been identified at KAIST. On May 4, the 19th confirmed case was reported — the first case in 20 days since the preceding case. Three days later, on May 7,  the 20th case was reported on the main campus. An additional case was reported the following day; the person had been classified as a close contact of the 20th case and tested positive upon examination. All other close contacts tested negative.

On May 10, the 22nd case was identified. The person underwent PCR testing after being in contact with a confirmed case who visited Daejeon from a different city. All close contacts tested negative. Everyone who went in contact with the confirmed patient is required to perform a 14-day quarantine outside of school, regardless of their PCR testing result.

The KAIST COVID-19 Task Force (TF) situation room asks students not to visit crowded multi-use facilities. According to the TF, there have been continuous instances where members have received recommendations from the health centers to test for COVID-19 after external activities. While fewer cases have been reported on campus since April, the school asks students to refrain from visiting areas with high risks of infection and continue to adhere to safety regulations.
