The Cyber KAIST-POSTECH Science War was held online for the second year running, from September 24 to 25. The five contests were AI, Kart Rider, Hacking, Science Quiz, and League of Legends.

As a warm-up to the event, there was a series of friendly esports matches held between the two teams on September 24. These were contests in StarCraft 1 Remastered, FIFA 4 Online, and League of Legends. All three matches were closely contested, with POSTECH winning StarCraft and League of Legends 1:2, and KAIST winning FIFA 3:2. Overall, the friendly matches went to POSTECH 1:2.

Both schools fought well in the five main contests. In the AI competition, the KAIST team’s coding submissions had some issues in the first three rounds, resulting in  no-contest wins for POSTECH. The last round was a close loss for KAIST, resulting in an overall 0:4 win for POSTECH. The Kart Rider saw some very nice team play from both schools, with race strategies being updated as the races continued. After being down 1:3 with two races to go, KAIST racer Seung Hyeon Ahn clutched a win in race 5 with a last turn overtake to bring the score to 2:3, keeping KAIST in the running. Unfortunately, the KAIST team was unsuccessful in capitalizing on this chance, losing the series 2:4 to POSTECH. The Science Quiz was a dead heat after all questions were asked, at 60:60. However, based on the rules of the quiz, the team with the least number of remaining tiles took the win, and so, POSTECH won the tiebreaker. The Hacking contest was a refreshing win for KAIST, solving 10 out of 13 problems and winning with 9984 points to POSTECH’s 7984. KAIST took the win in the League of Legends competition, winning in a convincing 2:0 fashion topped off with a close comeback in game 2.

Overall, POSTECH won the second annual Cyber KAIST-POSTECH War with a score of 2:3. This puts POSTECH ahead in the total KAIST-POSTECH War victories, with 10 wins to KAIST’s 9.
