Starting October 6, Ttukbaegi, the cafeteria located in Taeulgwan (N13) operated by MJ Food Co., Ltd., has suddenly terminated its business This was announced on the KAIST Portal through the General Affairs Team on October 5.

Taeulgwan Ttukbaegi opened on the second floor of N13 on March 17, 2017, and has been loved by KAIST students, professors, and staff for providing diverse menus including Korean, Japanese, and Western dishes. According to the General Affairs Team, the reason behind the closure was that “MJ Food Co., Ltd. suddenly suspended its operation for management reasons.” Though there is no follow-up to the announcement, it is speculated that the reduced number of students staying in the campus due to the pandemic contributed to the business management.

This sudden notice is an unusual case of closure. In September, Ttukbaegi (Korean restaurant) and Onigiri (Japanese restaurant) in KAIMARU (N11) were replaced by A Happy Tummy Everyday (Korean restaurant) and Little Hanoi (Vietnamese restaurant) respectively. While the aforementioned restaurants notified their closure in advance, the shutdown of Taeulgwan Ttukbaegi was announced only one day before closing.

As a result, Taeulgwan Ttukbaegi refunded meal tickets from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 6 and stated that there will be additional notices for meal ticket refunds in the future.
