In order to make immigration processes more convenient for KAIST students, the International Scholar and Student Services (ISSS) collaborated with the Korean Immigration Office and the Ministry of Justice to provide those respective departments’ services to international students at KAIST. On October 21, a survey collected information from students who are interested in these services. The respondents were given a time slot on October 28 for a one-on-one meeting in the first floor lobby of the Main Library (E9).

The services advertised by the Immigration Office included ARC extension, ARC validity stickers, internship and work applications, re-entry permits, and student-related visa changes. The Ministry of Justice focused more on graduate students and their families, mainly looking to assist them with issues regarding permanent residency visas and naturalization. However, this was the first time that such an event had occurred at KAIST, and so many students tried to attend the event without realizing that prior reservation was needed. Furthermore, many students did not have the required documents for the government officers to properly approve of their applications.

Due to the popularity of the event, ISSS has since made an agreement with the Immigration Office to hold weekly sessions starting from November 11. These mobile immigration services will be provided every Thursday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. ISSS provided guidance checklists to all international students through email detailing the documents that were required to have the consultation session run smoothly. Hopefully, this will reduce the frequency of immigration related issues within the KAIST international community.
