On February 28, the front entrance of the Academic Cultural Complex (E9) was populated with futuristic prototypes of vehicles as companies across South Korea showcased their products on the Future Mobility Technology Exchange. The event was a collaboration between the School of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the Cho Chun-Shik Graduate School of Mobility, as well as the Korea Association of Autonomous Mobility Industry (KAAMI), the Korea Automotive Technology Institute (KATECH), the Ministry of Trade, Industry and the Korea Association of Autonomous Mobility Industry (KAAMI).

The exhibition invited active players in the fields of self-driving technology and next-generation electric vehicles to showcase their work to KAIST students. This included large corporations like Hyundai Mobis, Kia, over 30 startups inside and outside KAIST, and over 20 KAIST laboratories across three different departments. The invited companies presented products that mainly showed the concepts of autonomous driving and road traffic infrastructure using LiDAR sensors that create a high-resolution three-dimensional view of an autonomous car’s surroundings, collections of autonomous driving data, and self-driving using artificial intelligence.

Several sessions were also conducted in the Chung Kunmo Conference Hall and the John Hannah Hall, where KAIST professors and representatives from the invited companies hosted various talks about future mobility. These talks were an opportunity for invited speakers to explain their company’s products, as well as discuss the future direction of policy making for the automobile industry, the creation of data platforms for the mobility industry, the role of metaverse in autonomous driving, and other trends or state-of-the-art industry technologies for autonomous driving.

With this exhibition, students from KAIST who may be interested in the field of autonomous driving and vehicles could hopefully learn a lot about the industry.
