On February 24, the International Relations Team (IRT) announced its selection process for the first KAIST-NYU Study Away Program to commence in the coming fall semester. This exchange program, as part of KAIST and New York University’s (NYU) partnership initiative launched in September 2022, gives KAIST students the opportunity to take any courses directly at NYU for one semester and enjoy the lively campus atmosphere there. The program will currently accept 10 students, all of whom should be undergraduate students in at least their third semester with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0. Applicants should also submit a valid English test score that meets the required minimum (720 for TOEIC, 83 for TOEFL, 6.0 for IELTS).

Participating students will have to take 14 to 17 credits during the program, 6 to 9 credits of which have to be courses from KAIST, and a maximum of 9 credits of which should be taken at NYU. Unlike the regular exchange programs held by KAIST at various global universities, the KAIST-NYU Study Away Program will feature the NYU Minor Program, where participants can register for a minor in six programs: Biomolecular Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Cybersecurity, Mechanical Engineering, and Integrated Design and Media. If a student opts to select the minor program, they are required to take a set of KAIST and NYU courses to complete the program and have it officially reflected in their graduation diplomas. Participants need to have taken all the prerequisite courses at KAIST to register for the minor program. Priority will be given to prospective applicants who select the minor program, although it is not mandatory to apply for the exchange.

As of March 13, the IRT has already selected 10 KAIST students who would be presented to NYU for another process of selection. The final list of students will be decided by April.
