The Freshmen Sports Festival, hosted by the 19th Freshman Student Council and the School of Freshman, officially began on April 24 and is set to run until May 19. Usually held between freshman classes to encourage interaction among freshmen students, the festival has been reinstated for the first time since the start of the pandemic. Each class selects a certain number of participants to compete against other classes in three major sports — namely basketball, futsal, and badminton. Furthermore, other sports games where all freshmen students gather into two teams, such as tug-of-war, board flip game, and relay, are also prepared.

For the sports games wherein only a few participants play, the proctors of every class had to submit the names of six main players and around one to three reserve players. These games commenced in a Round of 31 tournament format where winning teams proceed to the next round. The top four teams then competed in a Round of Four format. The remaining two teams are expected to battle it out in the tournament on the day of the finals. The same tournament instructions apply to the badminton sports event, which is separated into two sub-events for the men’s doubles and the women’s doubles.

As for the other sports games, the classes were divided into the Blue team, consisting of all odd-numbered freshman classes, and the White team, consisting of all even-numbered freshman classes. On May 19, the day of the match, representatives from each class will be selected and grouped together for the games to be held in the Sports Complex (N3). After all games are held, the overall winning team or class is selected based on the results of all competitions held for various sports.

Aside from these active games, extra side events are also prepared, such as a class costume selection and a match prediction event. With the Freshmen Sports Festival brought back, it is hoped that the event makes the transition in their first year smoother and helps build more memories for freshmen students.
