I do think stricter kickboard regulations should be enforced for the safety of the students. Some regulations to check whether the riders are wearing helmets at all times would be crucial to prevent serious accidents. Also, I think that educating [and] reminding students on potential safety issues might help because a lot of the time, many accidents seem to result from people undermining safety. Regarding the recent fire in front of the [Undergraduate Branch Library (N10)], I think that a certain level of regulation [or] supervision to prevent overcharging could help. Kickboards are an important and efficient means of transport for KAISTians, so I believe that restricting their usage to students with drivers' licenses is not fair, since not all students have the privilege to have one made. I think enforced speed limits for kickboards, automatically or manually, as well as perhaps designated kickboard lanes within campus, would be more effective in preventing accidents, as well as enforced safety measures such as wearing helmets. I would go as far as suggesting a kickboard helmet rental service for students who occasionally use kickboards. (Maida Aizaz, Department of Industrial Design)
