Q: Why did you choose to take this course?

A: To begin with, I have always desired to be a learned person, and I believe rigorous training in reading, thinking, and writing is the key to achieving this goal. However, I had been lacking such training, especially given the STEM-focused education I had in high school. Also, I was intrigued by the possibility of a guided exposure to English literature, which I had never experienced before then. Therefore, I did not hesitate to sign up for it.

Q: How would you describe your experience in the course, and what stood out to you as particularly interesting?

A: The experience was more than fantastic. Professor Jung encouraged us to participate in her lectures by sparing more than enough time for student presentations and guided, immersive discussions, the latter of which greatly improved my ability to structure an argument and articulate it impromptu. Doing mandatory reading was painful for me in the beginning, since I did not have a good command of the English language. However, through Professor Jung’s guidance, I could enjoy reading literature in a more perceptual and empathetic way, which supplemented my disadvantages in the analytical approach. Despite the higher-than-average workload compared to other humanity courses, I will still give it a 9/10.
