On April 2, in line with the current shortage of dormitory facilities for its students, the construction team announced that another dormitory building will be built.

On April 5, the groundbreaking ceremony was held from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. next to Galilei Hall at the very place where the new building will set foot, with important figures including the president, the vice president, the auditor, and students around the campus. From outside the campus, personnel from the construction firm attended the ceremony to enlighten the attendants about the design philosophy.

The new dormitories were already under construction since January 10 and are to be completed by July 9, 2014 according to the current plan. The firm entrusted with the architecture and design of the buildings is iARC Architects, the same company that is building the Jang Young Shin Student Center between Tae Wul Gwan and the Sports Complex. The actual construction job, carried out by Jae Hyun Construction Industries, is over an area of 11,508,413 square meters, with the building spanning nine floors in total including a basement floor. The buildings are also designed with their designated parking slots for 64 cars, including two for the disabled.

The name of the dormitories or the precise number of people that can fit were not revealed during the ceremony, but the aerial view of the proposed design does illustrate a pair of environment-friendly and accessible buildings that blend in nicely with the existing dormitories.

It is not uncommon to see some students forced to live in dormitories that are not their first choice, or students who are assigned random roommates because of the shortage of accommodation. In fact, the notice for dormitory applications and allocation for this semester revealed that the dormitory capacity is 7,455 while the forecast demand as of January was 7,868. Also included in the notice was a very strict, even discriminating to some, guideline in designating priorities to certain students of different eligibility. The new dormitories are expected to relieve the stress during dormitory application period.
