Throughout October and November, KAIST hosts “Special Lectures on KAIST Campus Design.” Sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and Convergence Science, these lectures are an effort to gain insight on improving the KAIST campus in terms of aesthetics and creativity. Three prominent architects and researchers in the field, Kyu Sung Woo, Hyun Sik Min, and Professor In Chul Cho are expected to host these special lectures.
Kyu Sung Woo is the architect responsible for the IT Convergence Building (N1). He emphasized transparency between labs, all connected by a large social space in the center in order to promote interdisciplinary cooperation and communication. He received his bachelor’s degree from the Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering at Seoul National University (SNU), and received his Master’s degrees from Columbia University and Harvard University.
Hyun Sik Min, founder of the architectural firm Kiohun, is one of the most prominent architects in Korea, and his works have been largely reflected on several university campuses throughout the nation, such as the campuses of Korea National University of Cultural Heritage and Daejeon University. He received his bachelor’s degree from the Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering at SNU.
Professor In Chul Cho of the Department of Oriental Studies at Wonkwang Digital University focuses his interests on feng shui, an oriental philosophy on the harmonization between humans and the immediate environment. Professor Cho researches on studying feng shui with respect to living spaces, such as homes and dormitories. He received his bachelor’s, master’s, and Doctor of Philosophy (more commonly referred to as Ph.D.) degrees from the Department of Architecture at Sungkyunkwan University.

On October 14, “Campus Design from the Architect of the KAIST IT Convergence Building,” the first of the three lectures, was given by Kyu Sung Woo from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the International Seminar Room of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences Building (N4). The remaining two lectures, “KAIST Campus in Terms of Principles of Feng Shui” by In Chul Cho and “Experiences from Korea National University of Cultural Heritage and Daejeon University” by Professor Hyun Sik Min, will be given on October 29 and November 12, respectively.
