With the start of the fall semester, many new changes have been implemented to the KAIST Learning Management System (KLMS). The changes include a new interface, an addition of features, and an improvement in compatibility of the system with various devices.
KLMS is a system developed in order to provide higher quality education systems for both students and instructors. Through this system, it is possible to effectively distribute and share information through the web. Although the introduction of KLMS to the KAIST community was in the fall semester of 2011, it has since then undergone many alterations; this August, further changes have been made to encourage user-friendliness and to provide better e-learning environment for both students and faculty.
With the new changes, the accessibility of KLMS has increased significantly. The learning system is now compatible with three operating systems (Windows, Mac, and Linux), five web browsers (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Opera), and three devices (desktop personal computers (PCs), tablet PCs, and mobile phones). In addition, various viewing functions have been added to the system so that it is possible to view a wide range of documents and images uploaded onto the KLMS from almost any electronic device.
Another significant update to the system is the addition of a dashboard and various other features that encourage online discussions. The function of the dashboard depends on the permissions given to the respective user. For the instructors, it serves as a means to notify their students about any updates to the courses, while for the students, it allows them to check their progresses and notifications from class. In addition, students can engage themselves in a live group chat discussion and listen to virtual lectures. Furthermore, the instructors can carry out quizzes and assignments online as a replacement for offline homework.

One source of confusion concerning the new KLMS is that it is no longer used in conjunction with the Education3.0 system. The Education3.0 system will no longer be used in the future and all of the courses taken in previous semesters will only be available on the KLMS website. In addition, unlike the previous learning systems, KLMS will register the students into their enrolled classes automatically, so only sitting-in lectures should be registered manually. For further information concerning the updates, the KLMS User Manual is available under the Open Course menu.
