On February 7 at the KAIST Auditorium, the 2011 Freshmen Matriculation Ceremony marked the beginning of a fresh, new academic year for KAIST. The attendees for the ceremony consisted of the 950 undergraduate freshmen and their parents and guests. The ceremony indicates a new beginning for the students who come from not only different educational backgrounds but, in some cases, completely different surroundings as well.

The ceremony started off with a student pledge by the student representatives Minjae Park, a graduate from Korea Science Academy of KAIST, and Hyun-Yi Jung, a graduate of Gyeonggi Science High School. This was followed by a welcoming speech from President Nam-pyo Suh. The President briefly introduced life at KAIST and reminded the freshmen about their privilege to have been admitted to the university. He also mentioned that, although the students are entering a life of almost limitless possibilities, there will still be many challenges ahead. Only if the students involve themselves and take leadership in various activities in the university will they enjoy their life at KAIST. After the speech, a ceremonial performance by the KAIST choir followed.

The final event on the schedule was an organized meeting between the university staff members and parents. Faculty members from various offices attended this meeting. Gyun Min Lee, the Dean of Academic Affairs, Hoi-Jun Yoo, the Dean of Admissions and Seung Seob Lee, the Dean of Students were all present. The general topics of discussion included educational programs for the students and life on the KAIST campus.
