Professor Jay H. Lee of KAIST Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) was elected Fellow for American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). Professor Lee is one of the only two Koreans to receive fellowship in AIChE, after Professor Sang Yup Lee of KAIST Department of CBE. Professor Lee has been recognized for his pioneering research contributions in novel paradigms for improved and robust model predictive control in industrial processes.

AIChE is the world's leading organization for chemical engineering professionals, with over 45,000 members from over 90 countries. AIChE gathers members and expertise worldwide in core process industries or emerging research areas related to chemical engineering. Fellows are elite members of AIChE who have practiced and made significant contributions to chemical engineering for 25 years or more, and have been a member of AIChE for at least ten years.
Professor Lee currently holds many prominent positions in KAIST and in the field of chemical engineering. He is currently Head of KAIST Department of CBE and Director of Brain Korea (BK) 21 Program for the particular department. He is also a member of Korean Academy of Science and Technology. This year, Professor Lee became Head of Saudi Aramco-KAIST CO2 Management Center, and received the 2013 Computing in Chemical Engineering Award of AIChE's Computing & Systems Technology (CAST) Division.
After receiving the fellowship, Professor Lee said, “It's a nice recognition for KAIST, the CBE department, and myself. […] AIChE is the biggest and perhaps the most important professional society for chemical engineers and we would like to have many more KAIST CBE faculty members and students to become engaged in the society and win some of the awards and honors it gives out each year. That will go a long way toward improving the international stature of the KAIST CBE program.”
