On November 28, the 28th KAIST undergraduate student council election will be held. In this election, the Undergraduate Student Council and the student council of each undergraduate department will be elected. All enrolled students of KAIST, including students on a leave of absence and those who paid the student union fee, are given full voting rights. This year, a total of 13 undergraduate departments will participate. The members of the four departments - Department of Bio and Brain Engineering, Department of Industrial Design, and Department of Mathematical Sciences - that are not participating in the student council election and students with undeclared majors will not be allowed to vote for the departmental student council.
This year, the runoff primary and election panel policy were newly adopted. Unlike last year, in which the election headquarter with the most number of votes were elected, the election headquarters participating this year must receive the most number of votes and also exceed 50% of the total votes in order to be elected. An election panel policy was also implemented to promote the expression of opinion and discussion from students. Students who wish to actively participate in the election and encourage students’ interest in the election can register to become members of the election panel. The registration for election panel closed on 8:00 a.m. on November 18.
On November 6, the election process began with registration for preliminary candidates. All candidates who wish to participate in the election had to submit the required documents by 11:59 p.m. on November 10. This year, two candidates - Blossom and Mo-du-ae - are running for the election.
On November 18, election campaigns started at 8:00 A.M. and will continue until November 27. The candidate debate between the two election headquarters will be held during this period on November 21. On November 18, registration for absent voting started and will close on November 22. On November 25, information on the locations of voting booths and the voting process will further be announced. The election campaign will finish on November 27 and absent voting will take place. After the campaign period, the official voting will be held on November 28, and the results of the vote will be announced the next day. On December 2, the central election committee will finally verify and confirm the result of the election.
