With each passing year, KAIST has been striving to become a global village, where science and technology would go hand in hand with international understanding. As international students have been performing very well, the KAIST International Admissions Team has been working consistently every year to promote KAIST around the world. In January 2014, the admissions team travelled around Africa and carried out the promotion in high schools and universities. Another step taken on similar lines was the KAIST Admissions Team’s visit to Thailand.

From June 3 to June 6, this three-day trip included a visit to one of the most famous high schools in Thailand - Mahidol Wittayanusorn School - and two universities - Silpakorn University and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT). The dean of admissions, Professor Seung Seob Lee from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, with Sky Lee, also from the admissions team, made a presentation at each of these institutions, escorted by Professor Thanit Pewnim from the Department of Chemistry at Silapkorn University. Professor Lee talked about the history of KAIST during Korea’s hard times and how it has emerged to become one of the most prestigious research universities around the world. He also discussed the various advantages a student could avail of in KAIST, like the scholarship system, available networking, residential program, and innovative education with cutting-edge technology. The unique Undergraduate Research Program provides a great opportunity for undergraduate students to get acquainted with professional research even during their early years at KAIST.

The coming semesters will see more and more English oriented lectures, and a much better interaction between the international community and the Korean community. The admissions team is planning the next promotional trip to Middle Asia.
