TEDxKAIST will hold its upcoming 5th annual event under the theme, "Disk Defragmentation", a retrospective approach in deeming what is important in everyday life for individuals. The event will be held on September 27, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the newly built Jang Young Shin Student Center (N13).

The diverse pool of invited speakers in this consecutive annual event covers a wide spectrum of topics, from science, business to art. Seven guest speakers will give their short talks to registered audiences. TEDxKAIST will be provided exclusively to online registered guests for only a registration fee of ten thousand won. Registration will be open to KAIST students, as well as people from outside campus. Attending guests will be able to participate in the socializing event and free discussion sessions after the talk.

The lineup for speakers working in the technological sector includes start-up entrepreneur Jaehyun Nam, Ybrain Director of Strategic Planning, a graduate of the KAIST Department of Bio and Brain Engineering. His work in diagnosing Alzheimer's disease hopes to open an innovative path by converging wearables to brain engineering. Also, Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) Senior Researcher Jeongwon Lee, will give a light talk regarding tips on systemizing habits as a mnemonic device.

Joseph Kim, a journalist for science and technology online news Daeduk Net has extensive experience as a former scientist and working in the media. His talk will focus on exposing science and technology to the general public. Other speakers include a Samsung Electronics product designer, a photographer for BOSHU magazine, a freelance visual artist, and a KAIST bioengineering graduate student.

The first TEDxKAIST event was organized after former KAIST student acquired an official TEDx license back in 2010. The themes for the annual events shifted from Happiness for Science, From Here to the World, Ordinary Miracles, and Birth-Choice-Death (B-C-D). The yearly event is planned and organized by students in KAIST to provide a communal ground for fulfilling the motto ÒIdeas Worth SpreadingÓ, a motto that stems from the original TED organization.
